January Robert Burns Wedding Special

January 25, 2016  is Robert Burns’ Birthday. This is a big day in Scotland and can be a big day for you too! Who is Robert Burns, you ask? He was the famous poet who wrote Robert Burns who wrote My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose and Auld Lang Syne.

This year, the innkeepers at The West Hill House in Warren, Vermont are having a Scottish themed wedding special for those adventurous couples who have always dreamed of a kilted wedding (or not, the kilt is optional!)! This elopement special is full of unique Scottish details to make your wedding elopement extra special. Here are some of the details…

  • Scottish music playing softly in the background as you exchange your vows
  • The ancient tradition of Hand fastening: part of the ancient Scottish marriage ceremony during which the hands of the couple are tied together with a tartan cloth or ribbon (the origin of “tying the knot”) when a strip of the bride’s clan tartan and the groom’s tartan were tied together in a knot and wrapped around the couple’s wrist to signify they are joined for life.
  • We’ll teach you the simple, Scottish, St. Bernard’s waltz for your first dance as a married couple.
  • An in-house Scottish wedding dinner served by your kilted host
  • Justice of the Peace who will officiate at your ceremony and will contact you ahead of time to work with you to personalize your ceremony
  • A wedding cake
  • A bottle of Champagne or sparkling cider
  • Two keepsake signature West Hill House B&B Champagne flutes
  • Digital photographs and slideshow of your ceremony
  • Seasonal flowers: either 2 small corsages, boutonnieres, or bouquets or a table arrangement
  • Your choice of location on property for your ceremony
  • Two weekday nights of accommodation in the Highland Room (further nights at regular rates)
  • And perhaps a few other happy Scottish traditions tossed in as well!
